Levites

Hebrew לְוִיִּם. Also called Levite, Tribe of Levi, Leviyim.

The tribe with no land — given cities scattered through everyone else's territory instead.

Levi received no tribal allotment. Instead the Levites were given forty-eight towns distributed across the other tribes, with pasture around each, and lived on the tithe rather than on farming. The priesthood came from one family within the tribe, Aaron's; the rest of the Levites did everything else the sanctuary needed — carrying it, guarding it, singing in it. The arrangement means there was no part of Israel without them, which is the intent: the tribe that had no place of its own was in every place.

Levites
“The Levites who were the singers … arrayed in fine linen, with cymbals and stringed instruments and harps … and with them … priests sounding with trumpets” (2 Chronicles 5:12).
