The Bible Revealed is free to read, and you never need an account to read it. This page sets out what the site keeps about you, why, and for how long. There is no advertising here, and no analytics or advertising company receives anything from this site.
The site counts how it is used, so it can tell which pages and features help people. Your browser keeps a random ID that is not linked to your name, email address or IP address. The site records events against that ID: a chapter or page opened, a translation switched, a search made, a feature used.
A search records what you typed, so the site can see which searches find nothing. The text is cut to 60 characters, and anything that looks like an email address or a phone number is replaced before it is stored.
These records are deleted after 90 days. Visits from known search-engine crawlers are deleted after 7 days. The site's administrators are never counted.
Some things are kept only on your device and never sent to the site: your bookmarks and their notes, your reading settings (translation, layout, map style), the random ID above, and any scripture you download for offline reading. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes all of it.
An account holds your name, your email address, and your password, stored only as a one-way hash that cannot be turned back into the password. It also holds whether you have confirmed your email, any feedback you send and the replies to it, and any community context you submit. Approved community context is shown to everyone, without your name.
When you share a passage by email, the site sends it to the address you give and does not store that address.
You can delete your account from your account page. That removes the account, your feedback and your community context straight away.
The site sets three cookies, all of them its own: one that keeps you signed in (it expires after two hours without use), one that protects forms against forgery, and a "remember me" cookie, only if you tick that box when you log in. There are no advertising or third-party cookies.
One. Maps are drawn on tiles from Esri, so when a map is on screen your browser asks Esri for them, and Esri receives your IP address and browser details. Everything else, fonts included, comes from this site itself.
It does not sell or rent your information, share it with advertisers, or use it for anything other than running this site.
Email mdewyer@gmail.com with any question about your information, or to ask what is held about you. You do not need an account to ask. If you have one, the "Submit feedback" link in the site footer reaches the same person.
